16-Year-Old Lands Record Longfin Tuna with Sharkfin 4000 Reel

Jonathan Gloyn, a 16-year-old from South Africa, used a Sharkfin 4000 Reel to catch and land a longfin tuna weighing in at 60.68 lbs. (27.58 kg.) for a South African record, an All Africa record, and a pending State record. The exciting June 5 event took place while Jonathan was fishing 26 miles southwest of Cape Point, Capetown, South Africa on a boat named BIGEYE and using a megabait 4 oz. bucktail jig dropped to approx. 200 feet, and a 5′, 6″ Trailblazer jig rod. He also landed two yellowfin tuna weighing 112.20 lbs. (51 kg.) and 128.92 lbs. (58.0 kg.) using the same method. One week later, Jonathan fished his first SADSAA CAP-National colors in a Game Fish Tournament and his team won the gold medal.
